Care Beyond The Boulevard

Please consider volunteering to help us Help the Homeless  …

What We Do

Care Beyond The Boulevard, Inc. provides quality medical health care to the homeless of Kansas City.

Our Vision – The homeless, uninsured, or otherwise vulnerable members of society have access to quality medical and mental health care despite adverse financial or social circumstances.

Who We Serve – Any and all homeless, uninsured, or otherwise vulnerable members of society who lack access to quality health care.

Our Schedule

** New ** Thursdays – We staff a medical clinic at Cherith Brook from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

Monday nights – We staff a medical clinic at Micah Ministries at Independence Boulevard Christian Church from 5:30PM until 7:00PM.

Tuesday nights – Our route takes us through Independence and KCK, providing both episodic and long term care. Care is delivered at the curbside, in a field, in a campsite, under a bridge.

Wednesday nights – Our route takes us through Kansas City MO and North KC. These can be busy stops, where we see 10+ patients per stop. Care is delivered at the curbside, on a trail, on a bridge over I-70.

Note: On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, we will stop for any individual on a street corner or roadside who appears destitute/homeless, or anyone appearing in need of care.

CBB Statement of Solidarity

In solidarity with people around the world, Care Beyond the Boulevard voices its anger at the continued targeting of black Americans. Black lives matter and we abhor the structural racism and implicit biases that perpetuate inequities in health care, criminal justice, education, and economic self-sufficiency. The disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic among people of color and the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are recent examples of racism and structural violence in the United States. We stand with the families and friends of local murder victims like Ryan Stokes, Cameron Lamb, and Donnie Sanders and await the justice that they deserve.

On a daily basis, those of us at Care Beyond the Boulevard grieve and bear witness to the violence, marginalization, and oppression of excluded people right here in Kansas City. We see the bruises and scars and we feel the emotional pain. We believe there is enough for everyone but resources are unequally distributed and structurally contained for the privileged class.

Care Beyond the Boulevard commits to the following actions in our fight for equity and justice:

  • We will listen. Please email us at info@carebeyondtheboulevard.com to share ways in which we can improve equity within our organization.
  • We will educate ourselves and the street medicine community about the racial disparity among the black unsheltered homeless population and equip ourselves and the organizations that we are in contact with, on ways to erase that disparity.

We at Care Beyond the Boulevard come from disparate backgrounds but have a common goal. Our work in street medicine is defined more by the values that guide our daily lives than by the medical care we deliver. These values are inclusivity, solidarity, justice and love. We practice inclusion medicine; all people – regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, or religion – are worthy of our care. We listen and allow our rough-sleeping friends to define our priorities, rather than forcing them to conform to our agenda. We stand in solidarity with the people we serve, immersing ourselves in their reality. The harsher their reality becomes, the more we strive to share their burden. We bear witness to injustices inflicted on them almost daily, challenging their very right to exist in our city. Finally, we understand that of all the things we can do, creating more love is always the most important.

In solidarity and with love,

The Care Beyond the Boulevard Board

Stay Home and Be Healthy!

What if you have no home except the streets…homeless camps…crowded emergency shelters…???

Care Beyond the Boulevard is continuing to provide life-saving medical services to our most vulnerable sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, kids and friends.

Nurse KK and our amazing volunteer providers are going out nights and weekends during this public health crisis, just as they have for almost four years.

We need volunteers (a bus driver!) and supplies, but we ask you to please consider making a financial donation to us now as we need to purchase medical supplies and medications far exceeding our capacity.

Help us be a lifeline to those who have nowhere else to go.  Just click on the DONATE button to make a difference in these difficult days.

Thank You — and please share with your networks. It takes all of us!!!

Medical Care on the Streets ...

Every week, people in need watch for the big green bus because they know that quality medical care has arrived …

In 2017 Care Beyond The Boulevard registered over 900 patient encounters, treating everything from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, COPD and hypertension, to acute disease such as abscesses, burns, seizures, STD’s and frostbite.

Word quickly began to spread among the homeless and other charitable organizations.

Then, in late 2017 we were graciously donated a school bus and the funds required for restoration. By Spring of 2018 our bus had been converted into a fully functional mobile clinic and was active on the streets! The big green bus has greatly improved our ability to care for patients in need as well as created greater visibility, helping us grow to reach even more patients in need. We are projected to exceed 2000 patient encounters in 2019.
